Born
in London, Ruth started playing the piano at the age of 4,
"My mother is a classical pianist and I grew up in a
musical house", she says.
"I
discovered jazz in my teens and would always listen to my
dad's old records of Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and
Duke Ellington, among others. I played piano in the school
jazz band and it was then that I also started to have singing
lessons. I love the old jazz songs and it was always these
that I wanted to sing."
After
University, Ruth started gigging in restaurants and bars and
then decided to attend the prestigious postgraduate jazz course
at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London. She now
gigs regularly in venues in London and surrounding areas. |
