Animus (£12)
For his debut album on 33 Records, up-and-coming jazz saxophonist
Josh Kemp has recorded a selection of his original compositions
together with a couple of choice standards. The featured quartet
has played together for the last three years, gaining a rapport
which allows the music to flow with spontaneity, from fever-pitch
intensity to soft and sensitive interaction. They have a sound
that is lyrical and melodic, whether playing standards or more
contemporary material. Alan Barnes said of the ‘Animus’
recording:
"Josh Kemp has a lovely round sound....really a player
to watch....he will grow into a musician of great individuality."

Kukus (£10)
Josh’s album in collaboration with Tim Lapthorn features Tim’s
expressive compositions. Jazz writer and trumpeter Ian Carr
commented on Kukus
"Their music breathes beautifully with subtle light and
shade and it is shot through with feeling. This is mature, fully
realized jazz of a high order, and a pleasure to hear."
